Neither floating nor sinking… stuck in limbo; a testament of nature’s fury. On October 25, 1906, the Peter Iredale ran ashore on route to Portland, OR. Fortunately there were no casualties. Later, the ship was sold and dismantled for scrap. Only it’s steel skeleton remains, trapped in a sandy grave in the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. It is one of the most accessible shipwrecks in the “Graveyard of the Pacific.” Fort Stevens State Park, Oregon. September 2011.
